Johnson leads Women's Golf at Matador Spring Classic

Moorpark, Calif. - Shari Johnson shot an 85 while Ashley Baldwin and Echo Thatcher both shot 86 in the opening round of the Matador Spring Classic for Utah Valley. The 36-hole tournament is being played at Tierra Rejada Golf Course in Moorpark, California. Johnson is tied for 23rd with Baldwin and Thatcher both tied for 27th. Portland leads the team competition after the first round as the Pilots carded an opening round 316 to lead by two strokes. Cal State San Marcos is third at 327 followed by UC Riverside (331), Cal Poly (332) and Utah Valley State (351). Portland's Paige Rachor and San Marcos' Kate Hansen both carry a two-shot lead into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Rachor and Hansen both finished with the low round of 76 on Monday. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for 8 a.m. at Tierra Rejada G.C. |
