Goodyear, Arizona - Utah Valley women's golf shot its best round in the program's short history, firing a team score of 317 in the second round of the Bobcat Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.

"I'm very proud of the girls. They played their guts out today," said head coach Denise Larson. "This is the team we knew we could be all along. The girls can walk away today with their heads held high."

Shari Johnson shot the low round of the day, a 77, for UV while Echo Thatcher shot a 79 as the team improved by 23 shots from round one to round two.

Thatcher is tied for 66th while Johnson and Ashley Baldwin, who shot 81 on Tuesday, are tied for 73rd. Kasey Larson shot an 80 in the second round and is in 81st place.

As a team, Utah Valley is in 18th place, four shots behind Western New Mexico.

The Wolverines women's golf program is in just its second season of existence and first season competing for a team score.

Cal Poly leads the inviational by four strokes over Oral Roberts.

The third and final round will take place beginning Wednesday morning.
