Fairbanks Named Season's First Independent Player of the Week

OREM, Utah - Robyn Fairbanks picked up right where she left off last season as she was named the season's first Division I Independent Player of the Week on Wednesday. Fairbanks, the reigning independent Player of the Year, has now earned the award nine times in her career. Savannah State junior Patrice Robinson was named the Independent Newcomer of the Week. Fairbanks scored 36 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Utah Valley started 4-0 for the first time at the Division I level with a 103-83 win over UC Irvine. Fairbanks averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two wins last week and has propelled Utah Valley to its first 4-0 start at the Division I level. She was 21-for-36 (.553) from the floor during the week. Robinson averaged 14.5 points and eight rebounds along with four blocks in SSU's wins over Voorhees College and Morris College last week. In her debut as a Lady Tiger, she had a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds and shot 7 for 8 from the field. Against Morris College, Robinson finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks and was named the Hornet Classic Tournament Most Valuable Player. The weekly independent awards are nominated and voted on by sports information directors at NCAA Division I independent schools. |
