Fairbanks Named United Basketball League Player of the Year
March 19, 2007 Orem, Utah - Robyn Fairbanks added another award to her list of accomplishments as she was named the United Basketball League's (UBL) Player of the Year on Monday. Sandy Marvin and Julie McMurray were named to the second team with McMurray also garnering all-newcomer team honors. Fairbanks, a sophomore from Raymond, Alberta, was voted to the Region 7 team and a finalist for the All-America team that will be announced at the WBCA National Convention in Cleveland during the women's Final Four. Last week she was named the Division-I Independent Player of the Year and was a six-time D-I Independent Player of the Week. She finished the season with an average of 23.7 points (third nationally) and 9.1 rebounds while hitting 56% from the field. Earlier in the year, Fairbanks became the first player in Utah Valley's NCAA history to reach 1,000 career points, a feat she surpassed in just 49 career games. Marvin was second on the club with an average of 13.3 points per game during her sophomore season for Utah Valley. She started all 28 games for the Wolverines and scored 20 points or more six times including 28 and a perfect 13-for-13 from free-throw line in a win over Boise State. Marvin also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. McMurray averaged 8.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during her freshman campaign. Over the final eight games of the season (all vs. UBL opponents) she averaged 15.3 points per game while shooting 58.6% from the field and 50% from the three-point line. Utah Valley finished 15-13 on the year and 5-5 in UBL action with 12 out of 13 players on this season's roster returning next year. United Basketball League Awards |
