Weekly D-I Independent Recap...
South Dakota State University senior Megan Vogel was named the Division I Independent Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while SDSU freshman forward Maria Boever was named the Division I Independent Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 6 by vote of independent sports information directors for their performances Feb. 5-11.

Vogel earned Player of the Week honors for the third time this season and the second time in three weeks.

Wolverine sophomore Robyn Fairbanks has won the Player of the Week award four times this season while Sandy Marvin has once and Julie McMurray has earned the newcomer award once.

Scouting the Bison...
North Dakota State (10-10) has won three of its last four contests dating back to its 71-63 win over Utah Valley on January 27th. They swept IPFW and New Jersey Tech last week and are 3-2 in United Basketball League play.

Head coach Amy Ruley picked up her 650th career Divison-I win in the victory over NJIT, becoming the 11th active D-I women's coach with that distinction.

This is the third meeting all-time between UV and NDSU, with both teams winning once. It is the first time the two will meet in Fargo, North Dakota.

Scouting the Jacks...
South Dakota State (18-5) has won seven straight including its last three by an average of 53 points (over North Dakota State, New Jersey Tech and IPFW). The Jacks host Texas-Pan American on Thursday night.

Senior Megan Vogel leads the team and is second among all independents with a 18.3 points per game average and is tied with Robyn Fairbanks in field goal percentage at .554 on the year. Vogel is also shooting nearly 45% from the three-point line.

This season, SDSU has wins over #18 Middle Tennessee, Southern California, Alabama and Virginia, just to name a few.

They won the only meeting so far against the Wolverines after the 79-78 win on January 25th in Orem. The wild finish saw Vogel hit two free throws with less than two seconds left while Fairbanks couldn't connect on her two charity stripe attempts with no time on the clock in the heartbreaking loss for Utah Valley.

Fairbanks Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone...
Sophomore Robyn Fairbanks scored her 1,000th career point against IFPW on February 3rd, reaching the milestone in just 49 career games. She's the first Wolverine to reach that mark in the school's young NCAA history.

"It's amazing the short amount of time that it's taken her," said head coach Cathy Nixon. "The word I've used over and over for Robyn has been consistent. It's been that way since her first game here as a freshman. We're really fortunate to have her in our program and it's exciting to see her getting better despite of what everybody tries to do to stop her."

Looking Ahead...
The Wolverines will hit host IPFW on Thursday, February 24th and New Jersey Tech on Saturday, February 26th. The game against NJIT will be Senior Night and the final home game for senior point guard Veva Ahlstrom.
