Orem, Utah - Utah Valley State junior Rebekah Peterson has been named to the Division-I Independent Women's Basketball All-Academic team for the second time in her career while sophomore Hollie Beaman has received the honor for the first time. Peterson is majoring in psychology and has a 3.78 GPA while Beaman is majoring in Exercise Science and sports a 3.43 GPA. "All the credit goes to these girls and their hard work on and off the court," said head coach Cathy Nixon. "I'm pleased with the entire team's effort in the classroom and it's nice to see these two rewarded for that effort." On the court, Peterson is third on the team with a 7.7 ppg average and has started the last three games for the Wolverines, averaging 15.0 points in the three contest. She is also among the independent leaders in 3-point percentage, hitting 42.4% from beyond the arc. Beaman has started all 21 games for Utah Valley and is averaing 5.0 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. She had a "double-double" of 10 points and 10 assists last week against South Dakota State. The team is comprised of 11 seniors, eight juniors and 13 sophomores. Highlighting the 2006-07 team is the 4.00 grade point average achieved by Ashlea Muckenhirn of South Dakota State. The cumulative GPA of the all-academic team was 3.539. |
