Orem, Utah - A pair of Utah Valley State freshmen scored decision wins on senior day as Air Force spoiled the Wolverines final dual of the season, winning 38-6. Dustin Olsen and Eric McAllister scored wins for UV after the Falcons got an early, big lead in the dual. The Wolverines finished the season with a 6-12 (0-5, Western Wrestling Conference) record in duals. "We have a big jump to make for next season," UV head coach Greg Williams said. "Our guys realize that we have a lot of work to do and they are excited to get to work." Air Force set the tone early when Jake Kriegbaum picked up a 17-0 technical fall victory over UV's Justin Morrill. The Wolverines two seniors, Justin Rawle and Clayton Wolf, battled but fell in the next two matches as the Falcons built a 12-0 lead. Olsen was the first to score for Utah Valley. Olsen recorded an 8-4 decision over the Falcons Duane Miller, sealing the match with a reversal with 35 seconds left to take the 8-4 lead. "I'm very happy for Dustin," Williams said. "He has worked so hard throughout the year and wasn't getting a lot of wins. It was good to see his hard work pay off tonight. After Air Force's Stephen Crozier pinned UV's Marc Fenwick, followed by a hard fought match where Brock Jardine fell, 4-2 in overtime, McAllister picked up a 10-4 decision for the Wolverines. The match ended with a 38-6 Falcon's victory after Air Force's Anthony Stegeman won by technical fall and the Wolverines forfeited the final two weight classes. "I was real happy with our freshmen today," Williams said. "Both McAllister and Olsen are very hard workers and it was good to see them get wins." |
