Golfers Wrap Fall Season With Solid 6th Place Finish

PALM SPRINGS, California - Utah Valley had another solid day on the course as the Wolverines wrapped up their fall schedule with a sixth place finish at the Agua-Caliente Air Force Academy Collegiate Invitational at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California. "It was another good day on the golf course. This was by far our best tournament as a team," said head coach Clark Rustand. "This weekend was very encouraging as we head into the spring with some momentum." Andrew Smith shot a 5-under 67 for the low round of the day for the Wolverines. He finished tied for 21st at 9-under for the tournament, his best finish in relation to par as a Wolverine. Nick Nelson was the top finisher for Utah Valley as he was tied for 11th after a 69 (-3) in round three put him at 14-under for the tournament. Nick Neal finsihed one shot behind him and tied for 13th. Jeff Gibson's 76 (+4) and Jordan Roger's 77 (+5) rounded out the Wolverine golfer's scores. As a program, the Utah Valley men's golf team had one of its most successful fall seasons to date with Nick Nelson capturing the inaugural America Sky Championship individual title in September. Including this weekend's tournament, Nelson finished with two top-20 finishes while Neal had a top-10 and a top-20 finish. |
