Wolverines Post Strong Second Round at SCU Invitational

San Jose, California - After a slow start in the opening round of the Santa Clara Invitational, the Utah Valley State men's golf team rebounded by shooting even par in round two and are tied for 10th place through two rounds. The Wolverines posted the third best team score of the day after improving by 21 shots in the second round. UV is tied with host Santa Clara at +21 at the Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose, California. "I'm pround of the guys and the turnaround we had today," said UV coach Tommy Johnson. "I definitely think we're capable of posting scores like that consistently." Senior Nic van Vuuren had the most dramatic turnaround after shooting a 79 in the opening round to post a 69 and is tied for 25th at +4 overall. Dustin Robinson is one shot behind van Vuuren at +5 and tied for 31st while Jeff Gibson (+7, t-46th), Andrew Smith (+9, t-60th) and Jordan Rogers (+13, t-77th) round out Utah Valley's scores. British Columbia leads after shooting +1 through two rounds, three shots better than San Francisco. Loyola Marymount's Jason D'Amore is the individual leader at -6, two shots ahead of UCLA's Jason Kang. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning. |
