Golfers in 6th at Inaugural America Sky Conference Championship
Sept. 24, 2007
Layton, Utah - Utah Valley is currently in 6th place after one round at the inaugural America Sky Men's Golf Championship at Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah. 2007 Utah State Amateur champ Nick Nelson, making his Wolverine debut, is tied for 3rd among America Sky golfers, four shots behind Texas-Pan American's Shane Pearce. The America Sky Championship was scheduled for 36 holes and supposed to conclude today, but weather forced the postponement of the final 18 holes until Tuesday. The Wolverines are 13th out of 18 teams at the tournament running alongside the America Sky Championship, the Purple & Red Invitational. Nelson is tied for seventh overall in the P&R portion of the tournament. "We played okay considering the elements. It was cold and windy and rainy all day so that made it more of a challenge," said head coach Clark Rustand. "We saw a lot of potential and a lot of upside but I do think we could've played a lot better." Skyler Distefano and Jeff Gibson both shot 75 for the Wolverines with Nick Neal carding a 77 and Andrew Smith an 81. |
