van Vuuren Two Shots Back at Independent Championship

WINDSOR, Colorado - Utah Valley golfer Nic van Vuuren is two shots off the lead through two rounds at the Division-I Independent Championship at Pelican Lakes CC in Windsor, Colorado. van Vuuren, the 2006 independent champion, shot even par 72 and is 3-under and tied for 4th after 36 holes with 18 left to play on Sunday. Utah Valley is in third place overall as a team after shooting a 292, 11 shots behind leader Sacramento State and five shots behind Northern Colorado. The Wolverines are +7 as a team entering Sunday's final round. Jeff Gibson, along with van Vuuren, entered the day tied for second, but a 3-over 75 pushed Gibson back to even for the tournament, good enough for 10th place. Andrew Smith had the best round of the day for UV, a 1-under 71 and is tied for 15th +5 overall. Dustin Robinson shot a 74 on Saturday and is 7-over, tied for 33rd while Chris Cole was 6-over (78) and is tied for 40th at +9. Adam Tayler,who is competing in the tournament but not part of the team score, shot a 75 in round two and is tied for 35th at +8. |
