First Round Results

WINDSOR, Colorado - Utah Valley's Jeff Gibson and Nic van Vuuren both shot 3-under 69 and are tied for second after the opening round of the Division I Independent Championship in Windsor, Colorado at Pelican Lakes Country Club.

The pair are one shot behind Sacramento State's Grant Norton and tied with Idaho State's Kyle Prolo.

The Wolverines are also in second place as a team after shooting a combined score of 289, six shots back of Sac State and five in front of Idaho State.

Chris Cole shot a 75 and is tied for 22nd while Andrew Smith (76, t-27th) and Dustin Robinson (77, t-37th) round out the Wolverines competing for a team score. Adam Tayler shot a 77 for the Wolverines and is competing individually.

van Vuuren is the 2006 defending champion and D-I Independent Golfer of the Year.

The second round will take place Saturday before Sunday's final 18 holes.
