Thomas Named Independent Player of the Week

Orem, Utah - Utah Valley senior catcher Derrick Thomas was the named the Division I Independent Player of the Week on Tuesday after batting .600 (12-for-20) for the Wolverines last week. Thomas blasted three home runs, four doubles and 11 runs batted while slugging 1.250 as Utah Valley went 3-3 against Binghamton and the University of Utah. In an 18-1 win over Utah, Thomas went 4-for-5 with a home run, double and four batted in. He totaled four multi-hit games on the week. It's the second time this season that Thomas has earned the award. Utah Valley hosts Southern Utah in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4pm and a a single game on Wednesday at 7pm before traveling to South Dakota State this weekend. |
