Wolverines to Face Utes Four Times This Weekend

The Wolverines have won a season best three straight games after sweeping Tuesday's doubleheader against Binghamton. UV won the opening game 12-6, thanks to a seven-run sixth inning. In the second game, six-run sixth inning helped the Wolverines to a 13-4 win. Derrick Thomas was 5-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBI in the doubleheader. In the last seven games, Thomas is batting .520 with five home runs, four doubles and 17 runs batted while slugging 1.280. Freshmen Austin Heaps and Jace Brinkerhoff are also hot at the plate. Heaps is batting .533 during that stretch while Brinkerhoff is hitting at a .480 clip. Scouting the Utes Senior lefty Eric King, who hails from Orem, has been the ace for the Utes, sporting a 3-1 record and a Mountain West best 2.79 ERA in eight starts. Jay Brossman has eight home runs and 27 runs batted in to go along with a .330 batting average. Nate Burnham is batting .324 for the Utes and has 14 stolen bases. Utah leads the all-time series against Utah Valley 9-8, with the teams scheduled to meet six times this season. The Utes will play in Orem on April 17th and May 8th. On Deck The Wolverines will then travel to South Dakota State for a three-game series Friday through Sunday. The series was originally scheduled for Brookings, South Dakota but will now take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. |
