Bentley, Englestead Named Scholar Athletes of the Month

Cross country pair are both key contributors that maintain high GPAs

OREM, Utah - Juniors Karinne Bentley and Chase Englestead have been named as the Perry Homes Utah Valley Scholar Athletes of the Month for the month of September.

Bentley, who hails from St. George, Utah, maintains a 3.83 cumulative GPA while majoring in Exercise Science. She has shined for Utah Valley, leading the Wolverine women to one of their best seasons in program history.

"Karinne has been a mainstay in our program everywhere we have gone the past few years," UV head coach Scott Houle said. "She is also very academically minded. School has always been her first priority."

Bentley has consistently scored high for the women's team, leading the Wolverines to a second place finish at Utah State and a first place finish at Southern Utah. She was the top women's runner for UV at Montana State, finishing 12th while helping her team to a fifth-place finish.

Posting the second-best UV's womens time at the competitive Roy Griak Classic, Bentley helped lead the Wolverines to an 11th place finish out of 26 teams. UV beat big-name cross country programs such as Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma and Indiana.

Bentley's third place finish, her best individual placing of the year, helped lead Utah Valley to a victory over Southern Utah in the SUU Color Country Classic.

Englestead has been the consistent leader of the men's cross country team. The junior from Panguitch, Utah, is majoring in Physical Education Teaching and has maintained a 3.32 cumulative GPA.

Englestead's individual fifth place finish at the SUU Color Country Classic led the Wolverine men to their first-ever team first place finish as UV edged out Southern Utah and Idaho State.

"Chase is our consistent number one runner," Houle said. "He has developed into a great runner. He is also one of the many guys in our program that get the book work done."

Englestead has finished first among UV men's runners in each of the Wolverines five meets this season. To begin the season at Utah State, Englestead finished sixth individually, leading his team to a third place team finish.

At the competitive BYU Fall Classic and Roy Griak Classic, Englestead posted finishes of 15th and 69th place.

The Perry Homes Utah Valley Scholar Athlete of the Month awards are given each month to athletes who show excellence in competition and in the class room.
