Seven Athletes Named to Independent All-Academic Team
Feb. 4, 2007 Orem, Utah - Seven Utah Valley State runners have been named the NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic Team. Four Wolverine women and three men were named to the team. Kirsten Barney, a senior from Richfield, Utah, posted a GPA of 3.56 while majoring in PE. Sophomore Karinne Bentley, a pre-med. major from St. George, Utah, has posted a 3.78 GPA, which is best among the seven UV honorees. Sophomore Ashley Evans and senior Rebekah Poppinga round out the representatives from the womens team. Evans, a sophomore from Murray, Utah has a 3.53 GPA as an exercise science major while Poppinga, from Cottonwood Heights, Utah, has a 3.63 GPA as a psychology major. On the men's side, sophomores Chase Englestead and Jacob Buhler were honored along with senior Joe Bendoski. Englestead, from Panguitch, Utah, has a 3.28 GPA in computer science. Buhler, from Military, N.D., has posted a 3.77 GPA and is an undeclared major. Bendoski, from Provo, Utah is a psychology major and has a 3.53 GPA. Utah Valley was third among Division I Independent schools in the number of honorees. South Dakota State and North Dakota State each had nine athletes to be honored. |
