Women Finish 3rd at Independent Championships
Greeley , CO - The Utah Valley State women-s track team finished in third at the Independent Track championships over the weekend at Northern Colorado. The men finished in fourth at the two-day meet. -It was a great meet,- Utah Valley State coach Scott Houle said. -I was really happy with our athletes. They all competed hard and many fought through injuries.- North Dakota State won the men-s and women-s titles while UC Davis finished second in both divisions. In the final day of the event, Karinne Bentley finished second in the 1500 by running a time of 4:47.02. The women-s 4 x 100 relay team (Mariama Salifu, Tawny Judkins, Kari Snow and Tiera Zaugg) finished second at 46.80 seconds. Salifu won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.83. In the 100 hurdles Snow finished third. In the men-s 1500 Joe Bendoski placed first (3:58.00) and freshman Tim Rowberry was fourth at 4:01.19. Despite being hampered with an injury Chris Fogt was still able to finish third in the 100 by running an 10.76 seconds. Clifton Palmer jumped 6-08.75 in the high jump. His jump was good for a first place finish. Rowberry was also second in the 800 at 1:54.56. On Friday, Kirsten Barney placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:32.53. Bekah Poppinga was fourth in the 10,000 at 39:52.52. Bentley was the top finisher in the preliminaries in the 1500 meter run. She ran a 4:55.12. On the guy-s side, Chase Englestead was second in the 3000 steeplechase at 9:29.34. Mark Lott finished fourth in the same event. Michael Vick was third in the 10,000 meter run. He ran a 32:.28.40 in the event. To view results click HERE
