UV Pair Shatter Records at UCLA
April 13, 2007 Los Angeles - Two Utah Valley State distance runners destroyed records in their respective events as Kirsten Barney beat her personal record and Bekah Poppinga broke the school record at UCLA. "This was a great meet," associate head coach Kirke Adamson said. "The conditions were perfect at UCLA and the girls ran great." Barney, who set a personal record in the 3000 meter steeplechase just a month ago at the Long Beach Relays, beat her Regional-qualifying mark once again. Barney posted a 10:35.83 in the event, destroying her previous personal record. Her time was the 26th best time in the nation in the event. Poppinga blew away the school record in the 10,000 meter with a time of 36:24.6. Poppinga's time was more than 30 seconds better than the previous school record. Impressively, both runners' times were better than previous meet records in their respective races. Poppinga also finished first in her event, giving her the new meet record. The entire UV track team will be in action tomorrow as they compete at Utah State. |
