Distance Runners Compete Well

Pocatello, Idaho - The Utah Valley State long distance runners got their first work as four Wolverine runners finished the 5000 meter run at the Mountain State Games. "Our women runners ran very well," UV head coach Scott Houle said. "It was their first run this length and they all performed well." Karinne Bentley posted the best time for the Wolverines on the women's side, completing the run in 18:11. Mary Nothum and Bekah Poppinga also finished the run just behind Bentley. Nothum ran race in 18:15 while Poppinga finished in 18:24. On the men's side, Chase Englestead was the sole Utah Valley runner to finish the race. Englestead crossed the finish line in 15:46. "Chase ran at a pretty conservative pace," Houle said. "He finished strong for us. It was a good final race for our distance team." The indoor track season concludes next week when the Wolverines head to Ogden, Utah for the the Weber State Invite next Saturday. |
