Victor Aguilar is in his second year as an assistant coach at UTEP. He brings plenty of experience to the staff, as Aguilar has been one of the tennis professionals at the El Paso Tennis and Swim Club since 2001.

"Victor is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced teaching professional who greatly benefits the growth of our players," UTEP head tennis coach Jamie Campbell said. "He played Division I college tennis so he knows the rigors of the training and travel schedules. He is a wonderful addition to our team. We are fortunate to have him aboard!"

Born and raised in El Paso, Aguilar played junior tennis throughout the Southwest and was ranked No. 1 in boys 12 and 14. He moved to Denver, Colo., for high school, where he won the state doubles title as a freshman. As a sophomore, he was the third-ranked singles player in the state. He elevated to the top spot for his junior and senior seasons.

After high school, he received a scholarship to Southern Illinois University. He transferred to St. Regis College in Denver, claiming Rocky Mountain Conference titles at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Aguilar then returned home to El Paso, where he completed his degree in 1975. At the same time, he competed in local open and money tournaments. Following graduation, Aguilar was a public school history teacher. He later earned his master's degree from UTEP, graduating in 1987 with a master's in history.

The top-ranked senior tennis player in El Paso since 2001, Aguilar taught at El Paso Community College for 12 years. Prior to that, he was a private tennis instructor while also working in the educational system. He and his wife, Sabrina, have two daughters, Katie and Annie.
