Josan Named Freshman All-American By Soccer Buzz

Heralded UTEP midfielder Anoop Josan had one final honor bestowed upon her, as she was named a fourth-team freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz on Friday.

Josan becomes just the second Miner in program history to be so honored, as Laura Glasspoole was voted to the squad following the 1998 campaign. The distinction officially caps a stellar season for the Edmonton, Alberta, native, who previously had been recognized with All-Central Region status the Internet publication.

“I am so proud of Anoop because it is such a huge honor to be named a freshman All-American,” head coach Kevin Cross said. “She had a fantastic year. She led Conference USA and was one of the top assist makers in the NCAA. She was very deserving of this highest honor.”

Josan, who started all 21 games while leading the Miners to a 15-6 record, registered a UTEP rookie-record 14 assists to pace C-USA and rank third nationally. She also scored five goals, including two game-winning tallies. The most memorable strike was the penalty kick she converted late in the match to lift the Orange and Blue to a 1-0 triumph against No. 17 Rice on Oct 8.
