Josan Recognized By Soccer Buzz
Following a stellar freshman season, UTEP midfielder Anoop Josan has picked up a pair of honors from Soccer Buzz, the Internet publication announced this week. Josan was named to the All-Central Region third team, in addition to grabbing a spot on the region’s All-Freshman squad. It marks the second straight campaign that the Miners have placed someone on the all-region third team, as Jami Tullius was so honored a year ago. Meanwhile, Josan becomes the first “We are very proud of Anoop and the recognition she has received,” head coach Kevin Cross said. “She is an awesome player, and we are very happy for her.” Josan played a pivotal role in UTEP posting a 15-6 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark at University Field. She started all 21 games, scoring five goals while dishing out 14 helpers to break the Miner single-season rookie record and rank second all time. Overall, her 24 points placed her second on the squad. Of the five goals, two served as game-winning tallies. The most memorable strike was the penalty kick she converted late in the match to lift the Josan did most of her damage, though, with passes of laser-like precision.
