Jami Tullius Named To Academic All-America Team

UTEP’s Jami Tullius was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women’s Soccer University Division Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Tuesday.

A sophomore from El Paso, Tullius carries a 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering. She led the Miners in scoring, with 38 points, in goals with 17, and game-winning goals with five. She was also a second-team All-Conference USA selection.

UTEP went 20-4-1 and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, advancing to the second round after defeating Texas, 3-2, in overtime in Austin.

She is the third Miner to earn the honor in women's soccer. Holly Cohen was named to the first team in 2002 and Heather Clark garnered first team honors last season. Tullius was the only sophomore named to the either the first or second team and one of just two nationally on the three teams selected in 2005.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
