Mack and Roberts Named All-WAC
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. A pair of UTEP soccer players were named All-WAC at the league's pre-tournament banquet Wednesday.
Senior defender Amber Mack and junior midfielder Kaletia Roberts both garnered second-team honors for the Miners. Mack has been a staple on the UTEP back row since her freshman season. She has started all 53 games she has played in including the last 48 contests. For her career, the El Paso native has scored four career goals and dished out a pair of assists. In 2004, UTEP has shutout seven opponents and put up a 0.97 goals against average. Roberts' second-team selection is her third in as many seasons. In 2004, she has started 15 games while appearing in 16. The Dallas native is seventh on the team with five points on two goals and an assist. She was also named to the preseason All-WAC team. This marks the seventh-consecutive year that UTEP has had at least two All-WAC honorees. The 2004 Player of the Year went to Rice senior goalkeeper Lauren Shockley. Freshman of the Year was awarded to defender Kimber Bailey of SMU, while Coach of the Year went to Rice's Chris Huston. UTEP will play Fresno State at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Thursday at 8 p.m. MST. The winner will face Rice on Friday in the semifinals at 8 p.m. MST.
