UTEP To Face Colorado College In First Round Of Conference USA Tournament

The UTEP soccer will take on Colorado College in the opening-round of the Conference USA Tournament Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

The Miners are the number four seed headed into their second C-USA Championship. They carry an impressive record of 15-5 on the season, including a mark of 6-3 in league play.

UTEP has out-scored the opposition 55-18 in those contests and has recorded a school-record 11 shutouts. The Orange and Blue rank 12th in the country in scoring offense, while checking in 23rd nationally in terms of shutout percentage.

Freshman Anoop Josan has been one of the catalysts, and she ranks fifth in the country in assists per game.

The meeting against the Tigers will be the second between the two programs this campaign. The Miners blanked CC, 2-0, on Oct. 21 to send out their seniors in style. Cortney Casey scored the game’s first goal with about 15 minutes to play in the match, before she assisted on an insurance tally by Brandi Aston only a few minutes later.

The match-up serves as UTEP’s first neutral-site contest on the season, although if history is any indication, the Miners will be more than ready to play on Wednesday. Last year, the Orange and Blue picked up a pair of victories on the way to advancing to the C-USA championship in their initial appearance in the event.

With a victory, the Miners would advance to the semifinals for the second straight year. They would take on the winner of the SMU/Tulsa game on Friday.
