Renovation Complete At University Field
The renovation to the playing surface at University Field, home to the UTEP soccer program since its inception in 1996, has been finished. The project had
commenced in late February.
“We’re super excited about our field. Right now we feel like we have a field of dreams,” head coach Kevin Cross said. “It makes you just want to go and play, it is so pretty. The completion of the renovation means the world to us because one of the final pieces to the recruiting puzzle is having an awesome playing surface. “We want to thank President Dr. Diana Natalicio, Athletics Director Bob Stull, Vice President for Business Affairs Cindy Villa, Senior Woman Administrator Lisa Campos for their work on this project. On top of that, we want to thank Juan Guerra, Ron Zuniga, Danny Robles and all of the people who worked so religiously on it. Everyone has worked extremely hard on getting the field into playing condition, and we are extremely grateful,” Cross added. The facility is now equipped with a new playing surface, which was laser leveled, a state-of-the-art irrigation system, new electrical components, improved lighting and a permanent fence surrounding the field. The total cost of the project is estimated at $100,000. The initial opportunity to watch the Miners on the breathtaking field will be on Aug. 19 for the Alumni game. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. |
