A group of 11 UTEP soccer alumni will dust off their cleats and take on the current UTEP team in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Sun Bowl. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free.

Players and coaches who have been a part of all nine seasons of UTEP soccer at one time or another will make up the Alumni team.

"We are always very excited for the alumni game as the program has a rich soccer tradition with many successful players," current UTEP coach Kevin Cross said. "The alumni team is an all-star team from the past, and we look forward to the game as the current team has been playing well. We will all be getting together for dinner after the game to share some stories from the past."

Current Miner assistant coaches Holly Cohen, Katie Gilmore and Kelly Parker will participate, as will current Coronado High School soccer coach Andrea Quintanar, who played from 1996-99.

Quintanar made history as the first official recruit in school history when she signed a National Letter of Intent on March 7, 1996. She will be joined on the Alumni squad by Brenda Fierro as representatives of UTEP's inaugural team in 1996. Fierro is currently a physical therapist in El Paso.

The alumni team features four players who earned six All-WAC awards, seven players who were named Academic All-WAC, three WAC All-Tournament team selections, one NCAA assist leader in 2002 and a pair of national Academic All-America honorees.

The event also has the potential to be a very high scoring affair as eight members of the 2002 team which led the nation in scoring at 4.42 goals per game will be on the field.

UTEP will also be in action on Sunday when it hosts the UTEP Spring Tournament at the Sun Bowl. The event has five teams playing four games each, starting at 9 a.m. The games will feature 11-on-11 action with two 15-minute halves. A championship game is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
