University Field Renovation Underway

University Field, the home of the UTEP soccer program since its inception in 1996, is currently receiving a facelift to the competition surface.

The project begin in late February and is slated to be completed in time for fall practice in early August.

In addition to a completely new playing surface, the facility will have a state-of-the-art irrigation system, new electrical components, improved lighting and a permanent fence surrounding the field.

The sod is scheduled to be laid in mid-April and will need a minimum of 60 days to take root with 90 days as a preferred timetable.

Below is a checklist of the process:
* All sod has been removed and transplanted at Canutillo HS.
* Grounds have been disked and dragged to separate roots from ground.
* Power lines have been moved and are now housed in an underground conduit.
* All valves and boxes have been moved.
* Compost and fertilizer will be mixed and tilled.
* Field will be Laser leveled, and several wetting and drying cycles will be allowed to aid in ground settling.
* Ground will then be rolled.
* Sod will be applied.
