The UTEP soccer team will kick-off its 2006 spring schedule with its annual game against a group of alumni on Wednesday night at the Sun Bowl. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. and admission is free.

Players and coaches who have been a part of all 10 seasons of UTEP soccer at one time or another will make up the Alumni team.

"We always look forward to the alumni game,” sixth-year coach Kevin Cross said. “There is some exceptional talent on the alumni team that will really push the current team. It will give us a great game going into the weekend games versus Arizona and Wyoming."

Current Miner assistant coaches Holly Cohen and Kelly Parker will headline the alumni team.

The alumni team features four players who earned six All-WAC awards, seven players who were named Academic All-WAC, three WAC All-Tournament team selections, one NCAA assist leader in 2002 and a pair of national Academic All-America honorees.

UTEP welcomes back 15 letterwinners and nine starters from last season’s group that went 20-4-1 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its first-ever appearance.

Wednesday is the first of five scheduled competition dates over the next month. On Sunday, UTEP will play Arizona and Wyoming in Tucson, Ariz., before traveling to Allen, Texas, for the National Collegiate Showcase, April 1-2. The Miners are scheduled to host a trio of club teams on April 9 to round out the spring training period.
