UTEP Shooter Qualifies For NCAA Rifle Championship




EL PASO, Texas – Two-time All-American Leah Wilcox was selected to participate in the 2007 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championships as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.

A senior from Simpsonville, Ky., Wilcox averaged a team-high 586 in air rifle over the 2006-07 campaign and gunned a team-high 584 at the NCAA Qualifiers on Feb. 9.

She posted three scores over the 590 mark including a school record 592 against Alaska-Fairbanks on Nov. 18, 2006. She shot 591 in a triangular against Texas Christian and Missouri-Kansas City on Feb. 3 and 590 against Ole Miss (Nov. 4, 2006).

This is the second trip for Wilcox to nationals and the third consecutive year the Miners have been represented in the contest. Wilcox fired smallbore in 2005 and Rachel Glenn competed individually in air gun last season.
