UTEP's Jones Makes Bednarik Award Watch List

June 26, 2007

UTEP senior linebacker Jeremy Jones is on the watch list for the 13th Chuck Bednarik Award, as announced on Monday.

Jones is one of 65 players on the watch list for the award, which is named in honor of former University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Eagles great Chuck Bednarik. Bednarik is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame.

The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the defensive collegiate football player judged by the Maxwell Football Club to be the best in the United States.

A 6-1, 240-pound San Jose native, Jones ranked third in Conference USA and 14th in the NCAA with 10.8 tackles per game in 2005. He missed all but two games of the 2006 season with a broken leg, earning a medical hardship.

The semifinalists for the award will be announced in early November, and three finalists will be announced on Nov. 26. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6, 2007.
