Rodriguez Gets NFL Shot With Tennessee

UTEP linebacker Robert Rodriguez became the fourth Miner to sign with an NFL team on Monday, agreeing to a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans.

The El Paso native led the WAC in tackles three of the last four years. He tallied 443 stops as a Miner, the fourth-best total in school annals.

Rodriguez was also credited with 34 tackles for losses, eight sacks, eight pass break-ups and four interceptions while playing in 48 games over the last four years. He had 137 tackles as a freshman, 135 as a junior and 121 as a senior. He was appointed a freshman All-America by The Sporting News in 2001.

He was chosen the WAC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. His fumble recovery just shy of the end zone in the second overtime secured UTEP's 35-28 victory over Rice.
