UTEP Adds Another Big Man
UTEP Head Coach Tony Barbee announced on Wednesday that 6'11", 285-pound center Claude Britton has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Miners beginning with the 2007-08 season.
Britton joins 6'7" forward Manuel Cass, 5'10" guard Randy Culpepper and 6"10" center Wayne Portalatin in Barbee's first recruiting class. UTEP's recruiting class was tied for 39th in the country by Hoop Scoop on Wednesday. Britton averaged 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots last season at Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, Miss. He shot 57 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. He is rated the 30th-best center prospect in the country by the scout.com website. Britton played previously at Southern Lab High School in his hometown of Baton Rouge, La. "We're happy that Claude has chosen to be a part of the UTEP family," Barbee said. "His addition helps give us the frontcourt depth we've needed. He can run, jump and catch. This is an outstanding recruiting class. We're trying to keep the expectations down because they're so talented." "Claude has worked hard to get his body in shape," Genesis One head coach Victor Evans said. "He is very skilled and moves well for his size. He was one of the best passers on our team. He is a good kid, very respectful. I really believe the sky is the limit for what he can accomplish if he stays focused and conditioned." Barbee said there is "a possibility" more recruits will be announced during the spring signing period, which continues through May 16. |
