Jackson Named Second Team All-Conference USA

UTEP sophomore guard Stefon Jackson was named second team All-Conference USA on Monday, based on a vote by league coaches.

Jackson is averaging 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals this season. He is the sixth sophomore in UTEP history to earn All-Conference distinction, joining Jim Forbes in 1972, Anthony Burns in 1979, Tim Hardaway in 1987, Marlon Maxey in 1990 and Brandon Wolfram in 1999 who were all recognized by the Western Athletic Conference.

Jackson has set UTEP sophomore records for points (561) and 20-point games (16) in 2006-07.

First team selections were Rice's Morris Almond, UAB's Paul Delaney III, Memphis' Joey Dorsey and Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Houston's Robert McKiver.

Joining Jackson on the second team were Memphis' Jeremy Hunt, Houston's Oliver Lafayette, UCF's Josh Peppers and Southern Miss' Jeremy Wise.

Third-team honorees were Tulsa's Rod Earls, Tulane's David Gomez, Marshall's Markel Humphrey, UAB's Wen Mukubu and SMU's Ike Ofoegbu.

On Tuesday Conference USA will announce its freshman of the year, all-freshman team, defensive player of the year, all-defensive team, sixth man of the year and newcomer of the year. The league player of the year and coach of the year will be announced on Wednesday.
