A former player for the University of Utah baseball team, Nate Schlieman returns to his alma mater for his first season as its assistant coach.

Schlieman, who donned the Crimson and White from 2003-04, spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn. There, he was in charge of hitters, catchers and baserunners. He helped the Auggies lead the league in stolen bases in 2007.

Prior to Schlieman's stint at Augsburg, he was an assistant coach at his high school alma mater (Burnsville HS, Minn.), and was the head coach of the Burnsville Junior Legion team. He mentored his 16-year-old legion squad to three consecutive state titles and guided them to a Legion World Series berth in 2006.

Schlieman, a native of Burnsville, Minn., graduated from Utah in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science.
