OGDEN, Utah - The University of Utah women's cross country team raced to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional here this afternoon. It finished with 269 points as sophomore Alyssa Abbott paced the Utes, clocking the 6K race in 21:41.3. She was 24th overall.

"I'm very pleased with how we ran at the championships," says head coach Kyle Kepler. "The athletes went above and beyond what I expected and we were able to duplicate our finish from last year."

Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego led all runners with a time of 19:29.4. Mountain West Conference rival Colorado State won the team title with 75 points. Northern Arizona (81 points), Brigham Young (90), Colorado (105) and Texas Tech (113) round out the top-five team finishes.

Two other Utah racers had top-50 finishes as Lauren Endersen (47th, 22:20.7) and Kellie Anderson (49th, 22:26.7) accounted for the teams' top-three finishers.

Also scoring for the Crimson and White were Chelsea DiGrazia (55th, 22:34.2) and Lauren Lewis (23:34.9, 94th). Utah's spread between scoring runners was 1:53.6. Alexis Davis took 101st in clocking the course in 23:49.3 and Rebecca Mackelprang was 117th in 25:42.6.

"We were only 18 points away from seventh place, which tells me that we are where we need to be." Kepler ends with, "Overall it was a great race for the program and we know we belong. The team and program will continue to improve and move up in the standings."
