Douglas Raymond retired from Kent State University in 1978 after coaching there for 18 years. Prior to coming to Kent State, he was the head coach at Boston University where his teams won seven straight New England Intercollegiate Championships. Doug coach numerous all Americans, including miler Sam Bair and won the Mid American Conference Coach of the Year twice. He is a member of the Kent State Athletic Hall of Fame.
