Women's Tennis To Host No. 26 Oklahoma

Feb. 9, 2005

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's tennis team will host 26th-ranked Oklahoma on Thursday at 1 p.m.

The Aggies are 2-1 this season after beating Idaho State on Tuesday, 7-0. Leading Utah State was Lindsey Bennion, who defeated Denise Cockrell 6-1, 6-2 to win the No. 1 singles match. She was also a part of the No. 1 doubles team with Carolyn Stephens which won 8-3. Jill Smith also helped Utah State win as she battled for her victory in the No. 2 singles match and contributed to the No. 3 doubles win. In singles action she lost the first set 4-6, won the second 7-6 (5) and took the third set to 11-9.

Oklahoma is 4-0 this season, after playing all four matches in one day. Three matches were against Oklahoma Baptist and one was against East Central. Oklahoma swept their opponents in all four matches.

The bubble at the Sports Academy and Raquet Club, where matches are normally played, collapsed in early January because of heavy snowfall. Matches will now be played at two separate locations. No. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 1 and 2 singles will be played at the indoor courts at the Sports Academy, located at 1655 N. 200 East. No. 3 doubles and No. 3 and 4 singles will be played at the Harris Research Facility, located at 1530 N. 1000 West. No. 5 and 6 singles will be played on the first available courts.

Utah State plays again on Friday, Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. when it will take on Mesa State at home.
