Lauren Monson Earns WAC Tennis Player Of The Week Honors

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State tennis player Lauren Monson was named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week it was announced on Thursday.

Monson, a senior from Salt Lake City's Skyline High School won the Flight B consolation bracket at the University of Utah Invitational last weekend. Monson defeated teammate Erin Manning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to win the championship.

Lauren also competed with her sister, Erin, in the doubles championship. Lauren and Erin defeated Ennenga and Lindley from Weber State, 8-4 in the quarterfinals, and Badger and Watts from Utah, 8-6 in the semifinals before falling to Kwok and Reveche of Utah, 8-3 in the finals.

USU's women's tennis team will host Montana on Friday and Montana State on Saturday in the team's first dual matches of the season. Both matches will take place at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. The Montana match will begin at 10 a.m., while the MSU match will start at 1 p.m.

Boise State's Clancy Shields was named the league's men's winner.
