Stephens, Monson Claim Consolation Titles At BYU Women's Tennis Tournament

PROVO, Utah - Carolyn Stephens and Lauren Monson claimed consolation championships to lead Utah State's women's tennis team in its first tournament of the fall. The Aggies were competing in the BYU Invitational this past weekend. Stephens posted a three-set victory against Cinthia Saucedo of Utah to take the number four singles consolation flight title. She won the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set 6-1. Stephens than posted a 6-1 victory in the deciding set. Monson won the number six singles consolation championship in a three-set match as well. She battled Crystal Knysh of Denver, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. One other Aggie reached the consolation finals as Courtney Anderson won the first set against Cheyenne Revecne of Utah 6-2 before dropping the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 to finish second. Other Saturday action for USU included Jill Smith finishing third in the number two singles flight, Lindsey Bennion finishing third in number one singles after retiring with an injury while ahead of Elana Smith of Weber State and Andrea Hansen placing third in the number five singles flight.
