USU Women's Tennis Opens Play At BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah - Erin Manning led the USU women's tennis team here Thursday, making it to the semifinals of the seventh singles flight at the BYU Invitational. Manning went 0-2 at last year's invitational as a freshman before sitting out the spring season. Manning picked up the lone victory for the Aggies as she defeated University of New Mexico's Allsion Davis in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Manning and Davis faced off again in doubles play, this time with the results swapped, as the UNM team of Davis and Ellsa Bonner defeated Manning and Tracy Johnson 8-0. Manning will face Utah's Jen Wencel Friday at 9 a.m. in semifinal action. The Invitational is set up with seven draws for singles play and four draws for doubles play. Each draw has its own consolation bracket guaranteeing each player at least two matches. USU finished the day 1-6 in singles play and 0-4 in doubles play. The Aggies will continue play Friday in both the main and consolation draws.
