Lauren Monson Leads Aggies At Utah Tennis Invitational

SALT LAKE City, Utah - Utah State's Lauren Monson won the consolation bracket of Flight B Sunday afternoon and also competed with sister Erin in the doubles championship in the 2007 University of Utah Invitational, which opened the season for the Aggies' women's tennis team. Monson defeated teammate Erin Manning in the championship by a score of 6-1, 6-2. She had beaten another teammate, Britney Watts in the semifinal match. USU players, Erin Monson, Courtney Anderson and Britney Nelson won their first round matches in the A Flight and went on to compete in the quarterfinals. Bridgette Strickland and Britney Watts also advanced to the second round of Flight B. Watts went on to play Saucedo from Utah, but lost in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-3. Erin and Lauren Monson were seeded second in the invitational for doubles. The sisters defeated Ennenga and Lindley from WSU, 8-4 in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals to play Badger and Watts from Utah, winning 8-6. They then fell in the championship match 8-3 to Kwok and Reveche of Utah. Utah State will open team match play against Montana in Logan on Jan. 26.
