Utah State Women's Soccer Routes Louisiana Tech 10-1 In Final Home Match

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's soccer team defeated Louisiana Tech, 10-1, on Saturday as the Aggies scored the most goals in a match in school history and tallied the most points as well. The Aggies improved to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in conference action, while Louisiana Tech fell to 2-14-1 overall and 0-6-1 in Western Athletic Conference action.

The Aggies struck early as junior midfielder Lacey Christenson rebounded off a Louisiana Tech defender to net the first goal in the second minute of action. Senior midfielder Abby Hunt tacked on the second goal in the eighth minute of action, as sophomore defender Lindsey Smart crossed to Hunt who headed the ball inside the six yard box.

Freshman forward Lauren Hansen had a hat trick before the 29th minute of the match. Hansen's first goal was tallied in the 13th minute as junior forward Candice Clark had a far post cross to Hansen. Senior forward Dana Peart had a far post cross to Hansen for the fourth goal of the match and Clark added another assist for Hansen's third goal. Sophomore forward Erin Salmon netted a goal in the 40th minute to put the Aggies up 6-0 at the half.

The Aggies came out strong in the second half as sophomore midfielder Jessica Williams tallied a goal in the 48th minute of action for her first goal of the season. Two minutes later junior forward Kiersten Nilsson notched her first career goal. Junior defender Alyssa Lowry netted her third goal this season in the 59th minute of action as she had a header from Smart's corner kick. Nilsson later tallied the 10th goal of the match in the 72nd minute.

After 10 goals from Utah State, Louisiana Tech punched in their goal as Kat McCullough netted her goal in the 74th minute of action.

USU outshot Louisiana Tech 22-7 including 13-3 in the first half and a 16-10 shots on goal edge. The Aggies 10 goals were the most in school history as well as the eight assists and the 28 points tallied is also a school record.

Utah State awaits for WAC Tournament seeding after tomorrow's three matches when Fresno State faces Nevada, Boise State battles San Jose State and Idaho heads to Hawai'i. This will be the third season in a row that Aggies will play in the WAC Tournament.
