USU To Host Intrasquad Meet Friday At 2:30 p.m.
Nov. 17, 2005 LOGAN, UTah - Although the Utah State gymnastics team's home opener against BYU will not be held until Jan. 20, the public has the opportunity to see what the Aggies have to offer at an intrasquad meet on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the HPER gym, room 211 on the USU campus. During the meet each gymnast will perform a routine on the events they plan to compete, but will not be judged. "We are hoping to simulate a meet experience and have some eyes on us," said head coach Ray Corn. The Aggies are hoping to significantly increase their level of difficulty this year by finishing floor and bar routines with D and E ranked skills. E's are the most difficult skills in the book. If the Aggies are able to do this well in competition, it could be what propels them into the top 20. Corn is looking for senior Jessica Parenti, co-captain Alex Martin, and sophomore Megan Tschida to lead the team in the all-around, with sophomore Katie Omann also looking to get in on the action. Corn also believes that each of the four freshmen should excel on special events. Because the Aggies' first meet is not until Jan. 8 at Cal State Fullerton, not every routine will be competition-ready at Friday's intrasquad. Corn is expecting some mistakes. Still, with standouts like Jackie Fogli on vault and beam, Nicki Felley on floor, and Sarah Johnson on bars, the mock competition should be quite a show. |
