No.25 Utah State Looking For First In-State Gymnastics Win At BYU Thursday
March 8, 2005 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State gymnastics (4-5) heads south to face Brigham Young (7-4), Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. in the Smith Field House. The #25 Aggies fell to the #16 Cougars earlier this season in Logan 194.125 - 190.600. Utah State has won four of its last five meets and is coming off of its third best team score of the season as the Aggies defeated California 195.325 - 192.350. Redshirt sophomore Jessica Parenti led the way for the Aggies as she won the all-around for the third time in three tries with a career best 39.425. It also marked the sixth best all-around score in school history. Parenti started off the evening by tying a school record on vault with a 9.950, winning the event. Parenti also finished the night on a high by tying her personal record on floor for the third time, winning the event with a 9.900 in addition to finishing second on beam with a 9.825.
Junior Liesel Kohler also had a great night as she won the beam for the second straight meet with a 9.850. The freshmen duo of Megan Tschida and Katie Omann tied for second on bars with a 9.800. Tschida also finished third on floor with a 9.850. Redshirt sophomore Rachael Mandy finished third on vault as she tied her personal record of 9.850 for the second straight time. As a team the Aggies notched the seventh best school team total on vault ever in addition to winning all four events. BYU started off the season very strong but is coming off of two subpar performances against Boise State. Last time out against Boise State, the Cougars were upset by the Broncos, 194.225 - 193.800. The Cougars hold a 20-6-1 all-time series advantage in Provo. Utah State will once again have a quick turn around as it hosts Southern Utah, Monday, March 14 at 6:45 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. This is the second time the two teams have met this season. SUU defeated USU 193.900 - 192.625 earlier this season in Cedar City. |
