No. 30 Gymnastics Travels to 27th-ranked Southern Utah
March 2, 2006 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's gymnastics team (5-10, 0-5) will travel to Cedar City Friday, March 3, where they will meet Southern Utah (4-5, 1-1) at 7 p.m. The Aggies are currently the third-ranked team in the Western Athletic Conference and the 30th-ranked team in the nation while Southern Utah leads the WAC and is ranked 27th in the country. The meeting will be the second for the Aggies and Thunderbirds this season. In their first meeting in Salt Lake at the University of Utah the Thunderbirds beat the Aggies, 193.175-192.675. Overall, the Aggies are 1-4 on the road this year and 0-4 on the road against WAC opponents. Friday's matchup concludes a four meet homestand for Southern Utah, during which they have posted three straight scores in the 194 range. Last week against Michigan they posted a 194.125 after scoring a 194.700 against West Virginia and a 194.825 against Brigham Young. Overall the Thunderbirds are 2-2 at home this year. Utah State is coming off a 193.750-192.175 loss at home to Sacramento State where the Aggies were led by senior Jessica Parenti. She scored a season-high 39.275 in the all-around after finishing first on the bars (9.850), second on the vault (9.800), tied for second on the balance beam (9.850), and tied for fourth on the floor (9.775). Meagan Lewis was also a major contributor for the Aggies as she scored or tied season-high scores in every event, recording a 9.775 on the vault (fourth), 9.775 on bars (third), 9.825 on beam (fourth) and a 9.800 on floor (tied for second) to compile a season-high 39.175 all-around score (second). The Aggies will compete again at home on Friday, March 10 and again on Monday, March 13 when they host Boise State and Southern Utah. Both meets are set to begin at 6:35 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. |
