Devin Daniels Named Utah State Athlete Of The Week

May 7, 2007

LOGAN, Utah - Devin Daniels has been named Utah State's Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, May 6. The award is voted on by a state media panel.

Daniels, a sophomore from Smithfield, Utah (Sky View HS) finished in second-place individually at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships in Reno, Nev., as he shot a seven-under par 209 (69-66-74). That second-place finish is the highest for a Utah State golfer since Todd Tanner finished second at the 1997 Big West Championships.

Daniels, who was one of just seven golfers to shoot under par during the 54-hole tournament, carded just one round in the 60's during the season before shooting back-to-back rounds in the 60's during the first two days of the WAC Championships. His 54-hole total of 209 was also a career-best for Daniels.

It is the first time this year that an Aggie golfer has been named USU's Athlete of the Week.

NOMINEES FROM OTHER SPORTS INCLUDED:

SOFTBALL - Sophomore pitcher Lindsey Benson recorded eight strikeouts in two appearances last week as Utah State was swept at New Mexico State in a three-game series over the weekend. Benson now has 126 strikeouts this year, moving here into ninth-place on USU's single-season list.

WOMEN'S TRACK - Senior Amber Peterson won both the 100 and 200-meters at the 2007 Weber State Campus Stores Twilight Meet with personal best times of 12.04 in the 100-meters and 24.48 in the 200-meters
