Azck Lloyd Named Big West Field Athlete Of The Week

March 31, 2005

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State thrower Zack Lloyd was named the Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week it was announced on Thursday. He is the first Aggie to receive that award this season.

Lloyd, a freshman from Ely, Nev., produced an outstanding performance in the Aggies' opening meet of the outdoor season at the Sacramento State Invitational last Saturday.

Lloyd recorded a shot put mark of 17.69 meters to claim first place. His mark also qualified him for the NCAA Regionals in late May. In addition, Lloyd finished third in the discus at 49.43 meters and 13th in the hammer throw at 44.14 meters.

In February Lloyd won the Western Athletic Conference Indoor shot put championship.

"Zack is the epitome of a student-athlete," said head coach Gregg Gensel. "He works hard in the classroom and is having success there and he is working hard on his throwing and it is showing there as well. He is a great athlete and I expected great things out of him, but he is surpassing those right now."

The Aggie track team will return to action this weekend competing at Brigham Young on Friday.
