Utah State Freshman Earns Track And Field Award

March 20, 2006

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Clint Silcock was named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, taking the first award of the outdoor season.

Silcock, a freshman from Arco, Idaho, won the high jump at the Willie Williams Invitational that was hosted by the University of Arizona, with a jump of 6' 10-3/4". He jumped two inches higher than his closest competitor, Bryce Bergen of BYU, who finished second with a jump of 6' 8-3/4".

In taking first place with his jump, Silcock also set a personal best, eclipsing his previous high of 6'9-1/2" that he set during the indoor season.

New Mexico State's Erin Streater earned the women's award from the league office. Amber Judd was nominated from USU after she won the 100-meter hurdles and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in Arizona.

The Aggie track teams will be off until March 31-April 1 when they compete at meets at BYU and Stanford.
