Lacey Hulbert Takes A Second Gold In Last Day Of WAC Championships

NAMPA, Idaho - Utah's States Lacey Hulbert took first place in the high jump clearing 1.75m (5-08.75) with teammate Seth Wold capturing first in the 3,000 meter with a time of 8:31.00 at the final day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Earlier in the week Hulbert also won the heptathlon accumulating 3,914 points. Senior Jill Steele clinched second in the 800-meter with a time of 2:11.98 just over her personal best mark of 2:10.30. Junior Amber Judd placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85 while teammate Jennifer Twitchell took fourth in the mile with a time of 4:54.71.

Utah State's women's team finished in third place with a total of 85 points. Louisiana Tech took first with 125 points and Idaho came in second with 90 points.

On the men's side Dasheek Akwenye captured second place in the 400-meter with a time of 48.76 while teammate Scott Bell came in close behind with a time of 49.16 taking sixth place. Bell also took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11. DJ Smith came in second place in the 60-meter with a time of 6.78 followed by Cedric Young who took third place with a time of 6.89.

Utah State's men's team finished in fourth place with 86 points. Boise State took the gold with 154 points.

Utah State will compete in the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. On Friday March 10 and Saturday March 11.
